Hilton, one of the largest, fastest-growing hospitality companies in the world, has been named to Fortune Magazine’s prestigious list of “100 Best Companies to Work For” in the U.S. for 2016. This is Hilton’s first time on the list, coming in at 56th and joining the likes of other acclaimed workplaces such as Google, American Express, and The Container Store. Hilton has over 325,000 employees working at more than 4,700 properties in 103 countries.
Companies are selected based on an employee survey and a written submission or culture audit. RSW worked with Hilton to draft the winning audit, which accounts for one-third of the score. The culture audit covers a variety of employee engagement-related topics, detailing Hilton practices in the areas of hiring, diversity, recognition, benefits, learning and development, and more.
The rigorous six-month process of completing the audit involved extensive research and scores of interviews with subject matter experts and employees at Hilton. The goal was to gain a detailed understanding of the company — and their culture. “We wanted to get into the minds of their employees,” said Brad Wines, President of RSW. “Hilton has invested a lot into building a great workplace over the past few years. Our role was to take what we learned and tell their story in an engaging and authentic way.”
“Adding to the complexity of the project is the unique nature of the company,” added Wines. “Hilton is a diverse organization of 14 brands, ranging from budget-friendly Hampton to high-end Waldorf Astoria. Each brand has their own distinctive personality. So we were not just telling one story, we were weaving 14 stories into one unified submission.”
In addition to this U.S.-based achievement, the 200-page-plus submission was used as a foundation for submissions in 14 other countries. To date, Hilton has been selected as a “Great Place to Work” in 12 of the 14 countries, with results in two countries pending. The submission also made the “100 Best Workplaces for Millennials” and “100 Best Workplaces for Women” lists in the U.S., as well as the global “2016 World’s Best Multinational Workplaces” list.
